We built this for ourselves first.

Libertas started in 2012 as a side venture between two brothers. Patrick was working in defense contracting, Jason was running real estate and construction on his own, and Libertas was the entity they used for whatever came next.

When we started building Marion Companies in 2014, Libertas became the thing we reached for whenever something got stuck. A tenant needed payroll run. A construction project stalled. A business we owned couldn't see its own numbers. We said yes to all of it: financial models, investor decks, business plans, technology, whatever the problem turned out to be. We had to. An empty building was a building we couldn't afford to carry.

That is where this team learned the work: years of fixing our own problems with our own money on the line.

By 2018 the pattern was clear enough to formalize. Libertas became the shared services organization for the whole portfolio: one finance, accounting, IT, and operations team, on one platform and one schedule. It still is, and it has absorbed every company Marion has added since.

Two of the companies we support today started as functions inside Libertas. We built them up and then spun them out, because keeping them in would have capped the people running them. That outcome is the one we want for the companies we work with.

In 2023 we started offering this outside the portfolio. Libertas is one of Marion's oldest companies and one of its newest brands, and the reason we can talk about growth chaos with any authority is that we have spent fourteen years inside it.
